Portable Danby A/C Unit, July 10, 2011 This review is from: Danby DPAC12010H 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Heater With Remote Control (Kitchen) I bought one of these last summer. I would have to say mine does pretty well. It's in a large kitchen/dining room area. It does a good job of keeping that area of the house cooler than other portable A/C units I have in the rest of the house. Granted the portable A/C units don't tend to cool as well as a window unit or central air, but it holds its own against temperatures well over a scortching 100 outside. On days like that, it tends to keep the room at about 87 - 88 degrees, but it's still noticeably cooler than being outside. If you sit next to the unit, you can feel the cool air coming out it.
The other review mentioned problems with water leaking. I've not had that problem with mine. Each morning I do drain the unit onto a folded towel and I've not had leaking water in the floor.
These units are good for situations where you have side to side sliding windows that a traditional window air conditioner won't fit into. These units have a sash you put... Read more

giant $600 turd, July 7, 2011 This review is from: Danby DPAC12010H 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Heater With Remote Control (Kitchen) Huge tubes connect to the back that cannot go short enough to have it in front of the window, so it ends up in the middle of the room. it struggles to cool a small room down to 78. drains a ridiculous amount of water in a short time, you will have to empty it all the time. if you dont have a huge container for it to drain into itll leak all over the floor. combined with the bucket, the tubes, the hose, and the fridge-sized system itself, it takes up a whole room and doesnt cool it. we are so frustrated because theres no way to return this item where we bought it , so were stuck with it. do not buy.
